영문 에세이 <결론> 쓰기의 노하우
에세이의 결론, 어떻게 써야 할까?
내 주장만 계속 반복하는 것도 어색한 것 같고, 어떻게 끝내야 할지 모르는 이들에게 아래의 예시들을 활용해볼 것을 추천한다.
1. Make a prediction: 예측하기
What do you think will happen in the future?
미래에는 ~ 게 될 것입니다.
ex) If this trend continues, fewer and fewer families will be able to send their children to university.
2. Recommend an action to be followed 방안을 제시하기 (call to action)
: Making a final statement that advises an action to be taken can leave the reader with a strong impression with the reader. This is commonly used in persuasive writing.
하루 빨리 이 프로그램을 시행해야 합니다!
ex) To reverse this trend, students must demand that the government increase its financial support for universities and improve financial aid programs.
3. End with a warning: 경고하기
지금 당장 조치를 취하지 않으면 어떻게 되는 줄 아십니까?
ex) without a change to the current system, Korea will not maintain its current position as a major economic power in Asia.
4. Ask a provocative question 자극적인 질문 던지기
자극적인 질문을 제시함으로써 독자들에게 흥미를, 여운을 남긴다.
ex) 노령화 인구에 대한 심각한 글을 썼다고 치면, 나중에 이런 질문을 던져보는 거예요.

5. Use a final quotation 인용하기
글의 시작에서 인용을 활용하여 임팩트를 주듯, 결론에서 인용문을 쓰는 것도 깊은 여운을 남길 수 있다.
ex) As Kim Sang-Jun argued in his book, The Future Starts Now, "A nation's economic wealth will increase through an educated public" (Kim 121). It is therefore imperative that students be given a "fair-go" so that they may build a better Korea.
글을 어떻게 마무리지어야 할지 몰라서 고민일 때, 끝맺음이 잘 되지 않을 때,
